Process
The County Strategic
planning process was designed to answer four basic questions -
| 1 |
Where
are we?
This question addressed areas such as area of the county,
population, where people live and work, what drives the local
economy, key social features, the county’s strengths and weaknesses,
extended social inclusion and cultural position in the county.
|
| 2 |
Where
do we want to go?
What kind of place do we want
County Cork to be in 2010? How should the county differ from
now, will inclusion be a major challenge, what do we need in
the agriculture / industry / tourism sectors etc.? |
| 3 |
How
should we get there?
This
question addressed issues such as the various development
options available. What strategy, if any, is being pursued
in the county at the present time, are there different economic
choices to be made, do these economic choices differ between
areas in the county?
|
| 4 |
How
will we know we’re getting there?
This question looks at objectives that are quantifiable,
e.g. increased living standards, reduced exclusion, educational
attainment. It would also look at the key milestones that need
to be identified and how the strategy should ultimately be judged. |
|
|
The strategy was put in place by the Board following extensive
consultations through sub-structures, working groups etc. Such consultations
included linking with the community & voluntary sector through
local networks and fora. Further details on
Structures/Consultation please click here.
Implementation/Monitoring
The County
Development Board is charged with responsibility for implementation
